Policy- Crimes against children and sexually violent offender registration act (1994; Megan’s Law)

 

Identify the social welfare problem and policy area of interest.

 

  1. Ex: Poverty, mental health, substance abuse, child/elderly abuse, housing, health

care, mass incarceration, domestic violence etc.

 

     Briefly describe the nature of the problem:

Ex: Does it prevent them from meeting a need?

Ex: Does it create an underclass?

Ex: Does it cause/lead to other problems?

  1. What causes and sustains the problem?

Ex: What brings it about (why does it happen)

Ex: What sustains it (why does it keep happening)?

Ex: Something else?

 

  1. Does the problem affect specific societal populations more than others? If so,

identify these populations.

 

     What Federal or State level policies are in effect (or proposed) to address the social

problem.

 

  1. a. Identify the policy (i.e., provide its name); if it’s a state policy identify the state.

 

  1. Describe what the policy does (or proposes) to address the social problem.
  2. Provide funding, establish a program(s), set guidelines, etc.
