Tables and Data Elements in a DBMS

To identify the data elements you need for a database, you first need to understand the purpose of your DBMS. Based on this, you must examine the following sources of information:

*Information from users and experts
*Research literature
*Existing reports and questionnaires

From these sources, you will be able to list unique pieces of information (data elements) that will become fields within your database tables. Once you have listed the data elements, you will start to cluster these into primary tables, which will have both a physical and conceptual name.
