Patient education regarding UV protection and changes in climate to prevent skin cancer and Phenomenology Theory. Students will write a scholarly paper on a topic of choice from the field of nursing education.

This assignment assesses the following course student learning outcomes:

  1. Ability to extrapolate the value of a sound knowledge base in theories of learning, principles of adult education, patterns of knowing, and types of scholarship in developing the nurse educator. (CSLO #2)
  2. Ability to compare and contrast salient learning theories related to the following: (CSLO # 3)
    1. fundamental procedure for change in behavior;
    2. assumptions about the learner;
    3. educator role in facilitating learning;
    4. basis of learner motivation; and
    5. transfer of learning (classroom to clinical setting).

Criteria:

  2. Select a topic that reflects a problem related to nursing education. The topic can be related to any of the following as long as the paper is approached from a nursing education perspective:

    • Other topics if approved
  3. Submit topic and framework/theory for approval by due date
  4. Organize your paper based on the following:
    • Introduction
      • Introduce the problem area (briefly describe why it is a problem)
      • State the purpose of the paper
      • Describe the sections of your paper
    • Problem Statement
      • Provide a clear statement of the problem area supported by the literature
      • Discuss appropriate educational position statements, regulations, and nursing documents to substantiate the importance of the problem*
      • Describe the importance to nursing education and implications
    • Theoretical Framework/Philosophy
      • Briefly describe the premise of the framework, theory, or philosophy
      • Discuss how the framework, theory, or philosophy selected fits with the problem
      • Be sure to cite your classmate if you use information from a PowerPoint Presentation (you do not need to cite yourself if you use your own).
    • Possible Solution to the Problem
      • Describe a possible solution to the problem supported by the literature
      • Apply the theory/framework/philosophy to the problem and the solution
      • Discuss appropriate educational position statements, regulations, and nursing documents to substantiate the possible solution*
