Gender Home and Housework in modern societies
Gender Home and Housework in modern societies. In women’s studies and family research, housework has been treated as a symbolic indicator of gender equity (Coltrane, 2000; Oakley, 1974; L. Thompson & Walker, 1995). The dynamics of assigning tasks and dividing responsibility and time spent in activities are of interest in terms of this line of research. In earlier work in home economics, housework was treated as work done at home and examined for how it might be altered.
