Gender Home and Housework in modern societies. In women’s studies and family research, housework has been treated as a symbolic indicator of gender equity (Coltrane, 2000; Oakley, 1974; L. Thompson & Walker, 1995). The dynamics of assigning tasks and dividing responsibility and time spent in activities are of interest in terms of this line of research.
