Light Bulb, Invention and Purpose

Light Bulb, Invention and Purpose.
In 1880, Thomas Alva Edison invented the incandescent light bulb and patented it. It’s an invention that has been around since the 1800’s. This invention has significantly, affected society by allowing the world to create a comfortable safe environment. Edison had come up with a 16-watt bulb that lasted for over 1,500 hours. Edison’s light bulb needed improvements, and those improvements are the reason we have light bulbs today.
The light bulb was invented by using a low current electricity, a small carbonized filament, and an improved vacuum inside the globe; this was not an original invention by Edison this was an improved invention by Edison from 50 years ago.
Edison’s bulb design had a pointy top but looked similar to the light bulbs you would see today. The socket was at the base, just as light bulbs used today. The electric light had a thin carbonized cotton thread filament sealed inside a fragile glass vacuum tube. The bulb worked by passing direct current through the filament.

Edison carried out experiments with over 6,000 filaments in order to pick the perfect one that would glow well and last a long time. He also tried many different materials and looked at the efficiency of different filament diameters, structures, and shapes.
He looked at stranded and unstranded wired. He tried oval and horseshoe shaped filaments. he also determined whether to use a vacuum pump or remove air from the tube or to let the filament burn out until it was out of oxygen. Edison was able to produce a reliable, long-lasting source of light. The idea of electric lighting was not new, and a number of people had worked on, and even developed forms of electric lighting. If it hadn’t had been for Thomas Edison we would be using candles, oil lamps, and gas lamps for light sources.
Today the light bulbs are used in lamps, ceilings, car headlights, street lights, christmas lights, and much much more. The light bulb has evolved into colored lights, compact fluorescent lamp(CFLs), and various other types.
The impact of Edison’s breakthrough was significant in the history if electric lighting. His work helped point future inventors in the right direction. The vacuum tubes are still used today, that captures the improvements of the invention that Edison put into action. It provided the industry with the bases of an efficient lighting system.

The Invention of Blue Jeans

The Invention of Blue Jeans.
In 1873 blue jeans were invented by a well known man named Levi Strauss. Blue jeans became popular for farmers and workers, because they were tougher and less likely to rip. Many Americans wore jeans for comfort, too. A 24-year-old German immigrant named Levi Strauss departed from New York with little supply of dry materials. He also had the intention of opening an extension of his brother’s New York business that he was bringing to San Francisco.
Strauss did not want to be a prospector, so he decided he would make enough money by selling supplies to the miners. First, Strauss sold cloth, textiles, and sewing supplies to the miners, but he didn’t earn much profit by doing that. Then he heard the miners complaining about how easily they ripped their pants, so Strauss decided to use some of his heavy canvas fabric to make the miners pants to wear. The first jeans were made of a material called ‘duck’, but this fabric was not particularly comfortable.
Then Strauss made the jeans using fabric called denim. Denim is a tough, cotton fabric which is made by passing under two or more threads. This fabric made jeans much more popular for everyone to wear, not just workers. In 1873, Jacob Davis wrote him a letter saying that he could make durable pockets with metal rivets for the pants. But Davis didn’t have enough money to share his idea, so he offered to give his idea to Strauss if Strauss agreed to pay his patent. Strauss agreed, and from then on blue jeans had metal rivet pockets.

Then the idea for jeans was to dye them with indigo, to make jeans blue. After that, blue jeans were considered perfect. Blue jeans changed the style of dressing later in history. After they were invented, blue jeans were typically only used for protection. But soon after Strauss changed the fabric to denim, they became comfortable and stylish. American’s then thought of new ideas for jeans, and the styles changed to all different kinds of jeans like skinny jeans, straight leg, boot cut, etc.
They initially changed the way of dressing, and the future style of Americans. Blue jeans became popular for farmers and workers, because they were tough, strong, durable pants that everyone could rely on not ripping. They became the apparel that changed America’s style of dressing too, and the most popular type of pants. Jeans are still largely popular, and they will continually be modified to fit the changing style of America.

Life Before Invention Of Science

Life Before Invention Of Science.
Science and Technology has been playing important role indifferent areas of human lives. In history we found man has developed and employed appliances and techniques to make better their lives. Here we are going to discuss how human being spend their lives before invention of science. what kind of services they used.
Communication Services
Humans are naturally very social and the way we communicate is vital aspect of our lives. We know that, communicating over miles is something that people once faced problem, but thanks to recent change in technology, today it is much peaceful and quick for us. Where people once depend on smoke signals and pigeons for means of comunication. In past when invention of science were not available people used birds for communication services. They used pigeon for this purpose, there for it is known as ‘pigeon post.Basically pigeons, have a good sense of destination That is the reason, for delivering message to someone pigeons were used. After writing the text in piece of paper they tied and attached it to pigeons or birds leg.

Transportation Services
In transportation Before invention of wheel in this world, there were two means of transportation.

By “walk”
Using “animals”

Donkey was the first animal that was used for transportation. Donkeys were used for carrying heavier loads at their backs. Donkeys were very easily trained for carrying stuffs like grain sacks, woods, water, bricks, vegetables. These kinds of animals are generally known as “pack animals”.some Other pack animals are camel, , elephant, reindeer, llamas etc
Horses were used for riding.peoples covered long distance by using horse as a mean of transportation.Horses have the capacity to walk entire day along with rider at the back over 40-45 kilometers per hour.
In the 17th and 18th century, many new means of transportation were invented such as bicycles, cars, trains, buses, trucks, airplanes, and trams etc.
Food Production
200 years back, almost( 85- 90 )% population of the U.S.A worked on agricultural farms and they produced their own food material. But in present, only 2% of the population produces food for the whole world to eat. That is a big change in the amount of food producing associated with people and assuring that everybody has sufficient food to eat. Before farmers use tractors and other motorized equipment to help with field work. , farmers would have to do field work by hand or with animal-drawn equipment. This work would take a long time to complete, and farms were smaller because farmers could only work on small land. Animals were not very fast, and they would get tired soon and need some rest side by side to recover from their hard work.
Food Preservation

In those days

The three main ways of curing (the process of preserving food) included drying, smoking, and salting. Each method drew moisture out of foods to keep it save from spoiling. vegetables Fruits and other food items could be dried by being placed out in the sun or near a heat source.

Response Paper to The Invention of Lying

Response Paper to The Invention of Lying.
Response Paper One Joseph Leemon For my analysis of the movie The Invention of Lying as it pertains to our class, I have selected two parts from the IPC book, where I can apply some of what I have learned so far. The first part is the Ethical Systems of Interpersonal Communication table from Chapter 1 and the Stages of the Interpersonal Perception Process from Chapter 2, The Ethical system of interpersonal communication contains five parts. Those parts are categorical imperative, utilitarianism, golden mean, ethic of care, and significant choice.
Categorical imperative is an ethical system that suggests that we should act as an example to others. This is demonstrated throughout the movie as the entire population (except Mark when he begins to lie), tells the truth no matter how it might affect the other person. A specific example is when Anna is talking to her mother on the date, and explaining that Mark is unattractive and undesirable, even though he is sitting right across from her. Utilitarianism is the ethical system suggesting that what is ethical will bring the greatest good to the greatest number of people.
An example of this would be when Mark tells the lie that he can speak directly to God, and he is confronted with a worldwide audience. He then decides to make up his own version of the Commandments, because he believes that these will help society at large in the best possible way. Golden mean is the ethical system where a person’s moral virtue stands between two vices, with the middle being the foundation for a rational society. This is displayed when Mark uses his lies to get closer to Anna throughout the movie by manipulating other people to get money and fame.

The other side of it is when he tells his dying grandmother how wonderful heaven is, so she will be able to die peacefully. Mark also has various other situations like this that keeps him centered and good. The ethic of care is the system that is concerned with the connections among people and the moral consequences of decisions. Throughout the movie, Mark tries to get Anna to like him, even though she originally thought of him as ugly and as a loser. They begin to grow closer, until Anna decides to marry Brad, because Brad is of better “stock” than Mark.
Anna does not end up going through with marrying Brad, because she realizes that there are more appealing aspects to Mark, even though he has told her that he has not told the truth. Significant choice is the belief that communication is ethical to the extent that it maximize our ability to exercise free choice. This is brought up in the movie a couple of times. One of the first times Mark uses it is when he runs into Frank, who is contemplating suicide. Mark did not have to tell Frank that he was a good guy, and that he was worth something, but he found it was the ethical thing to do, and exercised his choice in that way.
Another time is near the end of the movie where Mark tells Anna that he has not been telling the truth. He wanted her to like him for himself, and not all the money and fame that he had accumulated by lying, so he made the choice to tell her the truth. The second part is the Stages of the Interpersonal Perception Process from Chapter 2. These include attending and selecting, organizing, interpreting, and retrieving. This is used on Mark and Anna’s second date, when Anna asks Mark about his family.
Mark is able to draw her in by telling her of his father and his grandmother. Mark then uses organizing to create the belief that he is good enough for Anna, but Anna still believes that he is ugly and she does not want to have children with him. Because of this, Mark interprets that even though he has more money, Anna will still not be with him romantically. Mark retains this idea that he is not good enough throughout the rest of the movie, until the very end where Anna finally decides that she wants to be with him because of the person he is on the inside.
