Use of Resources to Promote Translation of Evidence into Practice

For this Discussion, you are asked to evaluate the use of a health information system and other resources in your practicum setting. What are the implications of resource use in terms of planning for and implementing your proposed evidence-based change?

To prepare:

Consider the benefits and limitations of the use of a      health information system within your practicum setting. What impact do      you think this might have for your proposed evidence-based change? Draw      upon at least one relevant example of a current or previous change      initiative at your setting as you assess this. (If your setting does not      have a health information system, you can still discuss the benefits and      limitations of not having a health information system as it relates to      this change.)
What other resources (e.g., financial, staffing,      materials) are important to consider as well? Why?
Be prepared to support your Discussion postings with      evidence from the literature and specific examples related to your      practicum setting.

By tomorrow Wednesday 4/3/19  2pm write a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references (see list or required readings below). Include the level one headers as numbered below:

Post a cohesive response that addresses the following:

1) Within your practicum setting, what are the benefits and limitations of using a health information system? How might this impact planning for and implementing your proposed change?

2) Describe three potential resource considerations that could facilitate or inhibit your proposed change and explain your rationale.

                                      Health Literacy Improvement
Health Literacy is an important aspect of Nursing Informatics, it’s how patients process and understand health information. When patients lack health literacy they do not understand their diagnosis and the treatment plans that the doctor makes for them. The big issue is making health literacy improvement plans for all clinics and hospitals, so that patients are better able to self-advocate in their health. We must be able to implement plans to explain in layman’s terms the instructions provided to the patient so that we can keep them from relapsing in health. Several studies were done where they implemented different strategies in clinical settings in order to improve health literacy between patients and medical staff.
Some of the methods used in the study was a mobile health app that helped the patients keep tract of their diabetes, as well as helped them keep up with their medications. This study was very important because it provided explanation and organization for the patients. The point of health literacy is to provide the patients with enough knowledge and understanding so self-sufficiency can occur and the chances of relapse decreases. During this study patients were found to be more compliant with their medications after they were able to comprehend the information given by the provider. The mobile app allowed them to track their blood glucose level efficiently and let them know when medication was needed.
The results of this study proved that people do not tend to be noncompliant from the beginning. People tend to fear asking too many questions and looking dumb or sometimes they do not understand enough to know what questions to ask. When given the right resources, that can explain their health in simpler or easier to manage ways then people are more willing to care for themselves.
Another process that should be done is proper training for doctors and nurses on how to simplify information for patients. Many times, the medical staff forget that the patients never had the training they received, so information needs to be simplified for all in the general population. Patients do not understand the consequences of their diagnosis most time, it is hard for them to know that if they do not take good care of their diabetes they will eventually lose toes or develop secondary diseases. As healthcare providers, we must have the sensitivity to every individuals’ situation and make sure we set up all our patients for success in the being of their treatment.

MIS systems are very important in the process of strategic management because the ability to collect and use information can help inform strategy formation and can give a firm competitive advantages such as monitoring suppliers, cross-selling to customers, managing funds and coordinating activities in larger companies. Information is increasingly becoming recognized as a valuable organizational asset and companies endeavor to implement strategies that have been created using reliable information that an effective MIS system can provide. (David and David, 2017, p. 269).
Some MIS systems can use stored data to create what-if scenarios that can aid in decision making between multiple strategic scenarios. Many can also create reliable forecasts based on historical data enabling a company to decide is modifications to the strategy are needed to hit future goals. In addition, once a strategic initiative is implemented, an MIS system can collect data to track and report results to ensure that the initiative is progressing as planned or if action should be taken to course correct (Markgraf, 2019).

Nigeria: Health Care System

Nigeria: Health Care System.
nigeria gained independence from the United Kingdom on October 1, 1960. It is comprised of 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Nigeria is home to approximately 380 different ethnic groups with 42 percent of the population residing in urban areas. Like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria experienced a period of civil unrest immediately following its independence.
Health Care System
The public health care system in Nigeria is loosely based on the British system. Shortly after its independence, the Nigerian government began to expand health services and the way in which it is organized: village level, district level, and local government. The National Health Policy and Strategy to Achieve Health for All Nigerians (1988) guaranteed primary health services to all Nigerians. The following goals were established:

Increase health education
Promote proper nutrition
Family planning
Improve maternal and child health services
Increase immunization
Implement prevention programs and control of endemic/epidemic diseases
Accessible treatment for common diseases and injuries

The Nigerian government has not been able to implement the majority of goals outlined in the National Health Policy of 1988 due to lack of financial resources. The government administers the public health care system and trains medical personnel to serve in tertiary and health clinics operating on the state level. Local governments are responsible for the operation of health facilities within their region.
St. Monica’s Health Clinic
St. Monica’s Health Clinic is located in Yakoko, Northern Nigeria. The clinical leader of St. Monica discusses the objectives of the clinic and the importance of the clinic within the community. Note the emphasis on maternal child health in the video (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. What are the implications of the clinic potentially losing its funding?
Epidemiology
The leading causes of mortality in Nigeria are infectious, parasitic, and diarrheal diseases. Although diseases such as malaria, measles, and diarrhea continue to account for the majority of deaths, other infectious diseases, like cerebrospinal meningitis, yellow fever, and Lassa fever, have steadily increased (Federal Ministry of Health, 2000). Non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer have become more prevalent within the last decade. HIV/AIDS remains the leading cause of death in Nigeria.

Ch. 18: Questions 3 & 11 (Questions and Problems section)
1(3) Changes in the Operating Cycle [LO1] Indicate the effect that the following will have on the operating cycle. Use the letter I to indicate an increase, the letter D for a decrease, and the letter N for no change:
a. Average receivables goes up.
b. Credit repayment times for customers are increased.
c. Inventory turnover goes from 3 times to 6 times.
d. Payables turnover goes from 6 times to 11 times.
e. Receivables turnover goes from 7 times to 9 times.
f. Payments to suppliers are accelerated.
2(11) Calculating the Cash Budget [LO3] Here are some important figures from the budget of Nashville Nougats, Inc., for the second quarter of 2015:

Ch. 20: Questions 8 & 14 (Questions and Problems section)
3(8) Interpreting Miller–Orr Based on the Miller–Orr model, describe what will happen to the lower limit, the upper limit, and the spread (the distance between the two) if the variation in net cash flow grows. Give an intuitive explanation for why this happens. What happens if the variance drops to zero?
4(14) Credit Policy Evaluation [LO2] The Snedecker Corporation is considering a change in its cash-only policy. The new terms would be net one period. Based on the following information, determine if the company should proceed or not. Therequired return is 2.5 percent per period.

Ch. 21: Questions 4 & 7 (Questions and Problems section)
5(4) Using Spot and Forward Exchange Rates [LO1] Suppose the spot exchange rate for the Canadian dollar is Can$1.09 and the six-month forward rate is Can$1.11.
a. Which is worth more, a U.S. dollar or a Canadian dollar?
b. Assuming absolute PPP holds, what is the cost in the  United States
of an Elk head beer if the price in  Canada is Can$2.50? Why might the beer actually
sell at a different price in the United States?
c. Is the U.S. dollar selling at a premium or a discount relative to the Canadian dollar?
d. Which currency is expected to appreciate in value?
e. Which country do you think has higher interest rates—the United States or Canada? Explain.
6(7) Interest Rates and Arbitrage [LO2] The treasurer of a major U.S. firm has $30 million to invest for three months. The interest rate in the United States is .31 percent per month. The interest rate in Great Britain is .34 percent per month. The spot exchange rate is £.573, and the three-month forward rate is £.575. Ignoring transaction costs, in which country would the treasurer want to invest the company’s funds? Why?
Ch. 26: Questions 1 & 2 (Questions and Problems section): Microsoft® Excel® template provided for Problem 2
7(1) Calculating Synergy [LO3] Pearl, Inc., has offered $357 million cash for all of the common stock in Jam Corporation. Based on recent market information, Jam is worth $319 million as an independent operation. If the merger makes economicPage 888 sense for Pearl, what is the minimum estimated value of the synergistic benefits from the merger?
8(2) Balance Sheets for Mergers [LO2] Consider the following premerger information about Firm X and Firm Y: Assume that Firm X acquires Firm Y by paying cash for all the shares outstanding at a merger premium of $6 per share. Assuming that neither firm has any debt before or after the merger, construct the postmerger balance sheet for Firm X assuming the use of purchase accounting.

Answer each question in a 100+ word answer.
9 (1)- Depending on the need that the purchase will be used for the company can determine whether to use long or short term loans. Its not only important so other creditors will know if you are credit worthy, but you wouldn’t want to misuse a type of lending. Imagine if you got a long term loan to pay for current needs, but had to pay it off over several years. It might make your payments lower, but would tie up long term loans. What are some of the other issues if you use the “wrong” type of loan?
10 (2)- A company might handle risks differently than any other company, which is fine since every company’s management and operations is different. It doesn’t make one manager right or wrong versus another. As a manager taking a job with a new company, how would you make sure to understand how the new company handles their risk management?
11(3)- How does a firm’s credit policy affect its sales, bad debts and accounts receivable?
12(4) – CAPM describes the relationship between the expected rates of return on risky assets in terms of their systematic risk. Its value depends on what things? And why are these things so important?
13(5) -CAPM states that the expected return equals the rate on a risk free security plus some type of risk premium. Is there some sort of threshold that must be met for a required return to determine if the investment is a good one or not? Is it a hard threshold and what is it?
14(6) – Describe interest rate parity and its effect on country currency rates?

You have been reading about two important aspects of this field—quality across the genres and looking through the lens of cultural diversity.Annotated BooklistFor this week’s Annotated Booklist, read:One chapter book and one picture book written by Book Creators listed in the “Writers and Illustrators to Look for” booklist (p. 38 of the course text)

One book from the booklists at the end of Chapters 3–9 of the course text that is marked with the sun icon, indicating that it includes some aspect of diversity. However, before you choose a book from this list:
Consider the following quote from your text: “Cultural diversity is wider than race, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or exceptionalities; it also involves values, attitudes, customs, beliefs, and ethics” (p. 32).
Take time to think about what defines your personal culture.
Consider choosing a book that was written by someone who shares a cultural background similar to your own in an essential way, or a book whose storyline involves your cultural background in an essential way. After you have read the books, respond to the guiding questions listed on the Annotated Booklist Form.Quality ChecklistBefore you begin writing your checklist, reflect on what you have learned from:Chapter 1 of your text

“10 Quick Ways to Analyze Children’s Books for Racism and Sexism”Then, based on what you have learned about children’s and adolescent literature this week, use the form to describe in your own words at least five characteristics of quality children’s and adolescent literature in general, and five characteristics of quality culturally diverse literature.Note: Evaluating the quality of any book entails not only assessing it for racism and sexism but also making sure that class, sexual orientation, and/or exceptionalities are portrayed without bias.

Application: Annotated Bibliography and Quality ChecklistPart 2: Picture BooksThis week, you learned about the characteristics and qualities of picture books for both younger and older children. You also engaged in and evaluated a read-aloud experience with picture books. Based on what you have learned about this delightful genre, you will continue to add to both your Annotated Booklist and Quality Checklist.Annotated BooklistThis week, you will read and annotate at least five picture books to add to your Annotated Booklist. Before choosing the books, evaluate each book against the quality guidelines, including the quality of the text, the quality of the art, the overall design, as well as appropriateness for the intended age level of its audience. Feel free to use the books that you chose for your read-aloud, as long as they exemplify the standards for quality children’s literature.Quality ChecklistBased on what you have learned about picture books this week, add at least five new entries to the “Characteristics of quality picture books” section of your Quality Checklist. Make sure to describe the characteristics in your own words. Based on what you have learned in the first two weeks of this course, add five new entries to the “Characteristics of quality culturally diverse literature” section of your Quality Checklist.Submittal InstructionsThis week, you can submit your Week 1 & Week 2 Annotated Booklist and Quality Checklist for the instructor’s non-graded review.
