Marketing Intelligence

Market intelligence is a term that is widely used, widely misunderstood, and often mistaken for a mysterious art requiring high-level detective work. Before providing advice on how market intelligence can potentially benefit your business, it is therefore essential that we begin this paper by agreeing on a definition. It is defined by Wikipedia as follows: “Market Intelligence is the information relevant to a company’s markets, gathered and analyzed specifically for the purpose of accurate and confident decision-making in determining market opportunity, market penetration strategy, and market development metrics. In simple terms, market intelligence is information that is gathered for the purpose of making business decisions.
It is largely synonymous with market research, the systematic gathering, recording, analysis and interpretation of information about a company’s markets, competitors and customers. * Types of Intelligence Sources Intelligence can be described as the summary of internal and external data and information, paired with expertise and experience in any given environment and brought into context with the own doing and goals.
Primarily though, market & competitive intelligence is based on sources providing the critical mass and substance to deal with as it comes to knowledge of any type. External Market & Competitive Intelligence Sources External market & competitive intelligence sources can and should provide a rich and realistic view of the external environment any business is operating in. Market & competitive intelligence has become a major marketing discipline and industry supplying much needed insights into business figures and trends.

Desk Research for Intelligence Desk research might be the most common intelligence discipline regardless how advanced the organizations intelligence programs and systems are. Published information and data, pushed by partners, consultants and MI specialists as well internal resources pointing towards external intelligence is being scoured, gathered and pre-analyzed. Acquired Intelligence & Market Reports Industry reports, market studies and other business intelligence are being made available in many formats and sizes.
Any industry or market have their major players in terms of research, market observation and monitoring who create and provide studies, reports, overviews, key market data, trends and indicators. Business Journals & Trade Magazines Business journals and trade magazines are excellent intelligence sources for both market intelligence as well as competitive intelligence. Most importantly here, the intelligence consuming organization needs to make sense of it all. Condensing and bringing relevant intelligence into context of immediate business needs and long term market strategies are crucial elements of intelligence preparation.
Industry & Market Newsletters Keeping customers and partners in the loop of developments and offers can be done quite effectively via newsletters that are delivered in hard copy format or electronically. Not only is this a crucial customer retention measure but a competitive tool as well where customers find another comparison opportunity across products and service offers. Individual Intelligence Subscriptions A large corporation with thousands of employees hardly has any overview of how many subscriptions are being ordered and offered to staff. Subscription providers never care about consolidation.
Neither do bothered employees if asked to openly acknowledge their subscriptions to market websites, news portals or periodicals. Market Intelligence: Wholesale Sourcing Drop Shipping, Bulk Wholesaling, General Wholesaling, Liquidation / Overstock Sourcing are sourcing strategies that need and naturally produce a lot of intelligence both market intelligence and competitive intelligence. External Soft Intelligence Any sales force and other field operators possess and handle unbelievable amounts of external intelligence about customers, market players, associations, industries and events with all developments and dynamics.
Not to utilize this vast amount of intelligence in any organizations is a major competitive disadvantage. Internal Market & Competitive Intelligence Sources Most important and generally of extremely high value are internal sources for business intelligence. Legacy systems, ERP, any transactional data as well as soft information such as meeting transcripts and verbal communication with customers, suppliers and partners need to be exploited. The intelligence found in internal resources such as management and marketing or sales force is invaluable for any business decision.
Business Data & Databases Major databases such as ERP systems, legacy systems, transactional data archived and stored for reference should be considered standard intelligence as they provide the very base for any data comparison and measurement. As well as for external intelligence, soft knowledge residing in the heads of the employees regarding internal view of markets and customers, competitors and other business variables can be invaluable for the entire intelligence prospective.
Utilize Internal Soft Knowledge. As well as for external intelligence, soft knowledge residing in the heads of the employees regarding internal view of markets and customers, competitors and other business variables can be invaluable for the entire intelligence prospective. * Steps to be taken by a Company to improve its Marketing Intelligence (1) Train and Motivate Sales Force: A company’s sales force can be an excellent source of information about the current trends in the market. They are the “intelligence gatherers” for the company. The acquired facts can be egarding the company’s market offerings, whether any improvements are required or not or is there any opportunity for new products, etc. It can also provide credible source to know about competitor activities, consumers, distributors and retailers. (2) Motivate Distributors, retailers, and other intermediaries to pass along important intelligence: Specialists are hired by companies to gather marketing intelligence. In order to measure the quality of production, the way the employees are behaving with customers, quality of facilities being provided; retailers and service providers send mystery shoppers.
Firms can also assess the quality of customer experience with the shops with the use of mystery shoppers. (3) Network Externally: Every firm must keep a tab on its competitors. Competitive intelligence describes the broader discipline of researching, analyzing and formulating data and information from the entire competitive environment of any organization. This can be done by purchasing the competitor’s products, checking the advertising campaigns, the press media coverage, reading their published reports, etc. Competitive intelligence must be legal and ethical. 4) Set up a customer advisory panel: Companies can set up panels consisting of customers. They can be the company’s largest customers or representatives of customers or the most outspoken customers. Many business schools set up panels consisting of alumni who provide their knowledge and expertise and help in constituting the course curriculum. (5) Optimal usage of Government data resources: Governments of almost all countries publish reports regarding the population trends, demographic characteristics, agricultural production and a lot of other such data.
All this data must be or can be referred to as base data. It can help in planning and formulating policies for the companies. (6) Information bought from external suppliers: Certain agencies sell data that can be useful to other companies. For example, television channels will require information on the number of viewership, ratings of TV programs, etc. An agency which calculates this information and generates this data will provide it to companies that need it. (7) Collect Competitive Intelligence through online customer feedback: Customer’s view about a product is most essential for any company.
Ultimately it’s the customer who’s buying the product. Hence customer feedback must be taken. Online platforms like chat rooms, blogs, discussion forums, customer review boards can be used to generate customer feedback. This enables the firm to understand customer experiences and impressions. It becomes easier for companies to apply a structured system to do so as it can then scan out the relevant messages without much of a trouble. With the above steps being applied, a company’s marketing intelligence system will prove to be beneficial to its effective functioning.

Study of Leadership: can leaders be born or made?

As everybody is living in a competitive world leadership skills are important for successful business. Leadership referred to as direct people to perform a particular task. In a business world, if someone wants to go ahead in the field he may need certain skills which may give an opportunity to be a good leader. Simply, it allows a person to climb up the business ladder. Therefore leadership can be considered as one of the main assets a successful manager should have.
Management concerns about an effective and efficient way to achieve organizational goals through planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling organizational resources. Whereas leadership is one of the components of directing function mentioned above. This means that leadership often linked to the role of the manager or expert. However, leadership and management are two distinguish roles which are confused by many people. Not all managers, for example, are leaders; and not all leaders are managers. Many researchers have studied leadership in a quantitative and qualitative way and seen that it is far more sophisticated and complex that the leadership concepts discussed in the popular leadership books.
Leadership can be represented as a process whereby someone influences the thoughts, attitudes and behavior to achieve an organizational goal. As a result, leadership can make employees more confident and train them to increase productivity through building trust and friendly atmosphere which makes employees to feel safety of their jobs which will help to increase the productivity. In an organization there are informal leaders with no tittle, no authority, no position power, but they can increase personal power.

Nowadays, most of the companies agreed that management without leadership is an ineffective activity. The resources of the organization cannot be managed without proper leadership. In addition to that without leadership organization may move too slowly and which may result lose their business too. Leader is the one who is a trustworthy, self-confidence and fulfill promises made and consider the work seriously. Different people are having different attitudes and therefore, they give a solution to a particular problem/conflict in a different way. Therefore, most suitable decision needs to be selected when conflict arises. Therefore, leadership is an activity to get other people to do right things. Therefore, the need lf selecting better leader for an organization has become a challenging task. Thus, by having right team with fully motivated staff and great leadership qualities can enhance the reputation and productivity of the organization.
Some researchers commented leadership as a personality perspective such as a trait or behavior whereas others think leadership is an information processing perspective. Therefore, in this analysis it is going to be analyze whether leaders are born or can made.
Are leaders born?
In the real world there are so many self-made leaders who become success in the business. It is a debatable issue whether they become top by born or experience gained during their life time.
When considering Trait theory (Ghee & Draft, 2004) explained that “traits are the distinguishing personal characteristic of leader such as intelligence, honesty, self-confidence, and appearance”. That means the Trait theory mainly emphasis that leaders are born.
However, this is questionable to see whether people are born as a leader. In that case, it is also needed to investigate people who are not born cannot be a leader. Vien Goleman (1998) reveals that five aspects of emotional intelligence such as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, social skills can be learned and provide. However, this concept is almost similar to the Trait Theory. Therefore, most of people argue that the traits are important in the development and deployment of people skills.
Most of the people argue that leadership is born when consider some characters such as artists and players. However, they have realized that leadership is actually not born. Therefore, following examples illustrate the above concern.
Tiger Woods- Golf Champion
He has born with some talents of sports. His father worked hard from his early ages to make him Golf champion.
Mozart- Musician
He also has born with certain musical talent. As his father wanted to make him as a musician from his childhood he was trained to use instruments etc.
Hendry Ford – Automobile leader
His parents were poor people who came to America with the hope of new start for their lives. When he was a child, most of the time he spent with his mother. He is quite and inward looking. In his young age, he mother passed away. He was working as a low level mechanist in various places without having enough money spend better life. He didn’t have any resources such as birthright and pedigree that could make him a born leader. But, finally he became as the greatest leaders the corporate world ever seen. (http://www.businessworld.in/index.php/Columns/Are-Leaders-Born.html, 14/03/11)
Those examples prove that their natural talent and qualities improved through hard work of many years. In other words they have improved their influencing ability.
“Leadership is as a process whereby an individual influence a group of individuals to achieve a company goals” (Northouse, 2010)
Above definition reveals leadership as a process which means it is not trait or characteristic of leadership, but something deferent between leader and the followers. In addition to that it tells that leadership is not a linear event, but it can be considered as a communicating event. Therefore, it emphasizes that leadership is available to everyone. In this circumstance, it is vital to discuss about whether leadership can be made or born.
Leadership is Made:
A successful business requires proper leaders, but not managers to run the organization to a leading position in the market. Therefore, to achieve this, managers should be a real leaders. Some argue that good leaders are made not born. If someone wants to be a leader he can be an effective leader by improving leadership qualities such as goals, values and concepts.
Bateman & Snell (2009) reveals a leader who keeps focus on moving the organization towards its ideal future, motivate them to overcome whatever barriers lie in the way. Therefore, leaders need to motivate others and build cooperate with them to achieve organizational goals. Simply, leaders need to make friends rather than enemies. Further, smiley and friendly approach will be the asset to reach for the success. In order to be a successful leader who needs to gain better training to harvest the success. The leader can develop positive thinking which can be enhanced by positive thinking and better training. Therefore, one’s own abilities and traits are not enough to become a successful leader.
In a real world, “he is born to be a leader” or “he is a natural leader” is commonly used phrase. It suggests the Traits perspective takes major part in the leadership. Further, it says that a particular person may have inborn characteristics or qualities which will help them to become leaders. However, figure 1 shows there is a difference between the Trait concept and Process concept (Northouse. P, 2009).
Figure 1- The difference between the Trait and Process concept
The Trait leadership tells that people who have special, inborn, talent can be a leader. Some of the traits are identified as height, intelligence, fluency and etc. Whereas, the Process concept suggests that leadership is interaction between leaders and followers and makes it available to everyone. Further, it says that leaders need followers and also followers need leaders who are closely linked to communicate each other to continue relationship.
Northouse (2009) suggests that according to Douglas Mc Gregor (1960) theory, leadership can be concerned in two aspects such as Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X emphasis if employees are shy, they need to monitor, direct and control by the leader. On the other hand, Theory Y concerns that some people take responsibility and organize themselves to achieve organizational goals. According to theory Y, employees can be easily motivated. However, this concept was taken into account later years and Black and Mounton (1964) developed “Managerial Grid” (Northouse, 2009). In this grid he suggests two aspects of leadership behavior such as production and concern of people.
Production- this aspect concern about task oriented behavior such as clarifying roles, scheduling work, and measuring output.
Concern for people- this emphasis on building trust, camaraderie and a friendly atmosphere. As this is more concern about the people, it helps to motivate employees in order to achieve defined set of vision, strategies and targets of the organization.
Therefore, all the theories mentioned above reveals that leadership is accessible for everyone. Northouse (2009), suggests that leaders should focus on vision, purpose, core values and the structure to translate them to take better business decisions. Therefore, it is essential that all level of employees needed to motivate to achieve the organizational targets. Many researchers such as Mc Gregor’s (1960) theory and vroom’s (1964) expectancy theory motivation reveals that followers are able to achieve targets of the organization with the influence of leaders. In addition to that, in expectancy theory it also suggests that different people concern different things.
Therefore, different motivational needs are required. Hence, to understand different situations and different people within the organization the need of training and learning skills required for an effective and efficient leader. Further, leaders should have some attributes and qualities to motivate employees or the team in the organization. Therefore, an effective leadership is an important asset to the organization as great leaders create great business components of business success through delegation, direction, motivation, evaluation and conflict resolution.
Bateman and Snell (2009) suggest that leadership can be learned and improved by coaching or mentoring. Therefore, better training will enhance the leader to self-motivate and hence, he or she can motivate the team as well.
Conclusion
In my concern, leaders can be made which means it is accessible for all people and can be learned as a behavior. There are no born leaders. However, all humans born with unique strengths and it enable to be a successful leader. Leadership is a skill, a proper leader needs to have and can be improved with practice.
As a person gain more and more practice his or her leadership qualities improve. In some situations, the company may have leaders but not identified their potentials. In that case, they can make a better leader by giving them better training and performance appraisal. This proves that people are not born leaders. In my view, someone can born with some personal qualities and characteristics that makes it easier. When the responsibility is given to a person it gives an opportunity to get broad skills and being coached by someone to encourage them. Hence, they can be motivated and perform on their own skills and knowledge to succeed the company.

An Unforgettable Experience 5

The Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Moon Festival is an important holiday in Taiwan. On this day, everyone enjoys the glorious full moon, eats juicy pomelos and tastes various kinds of moon cakes. Nowadays, having BBQ on Moon Festival becomes an indispensable activity to Taiwanese since the TV commercial started the BBQ(Barbecue) advertisement two decades ago. Back in 2008, I was only in my second year of high school stressing over all the tests and schoolwork and the College Entrance Exam. The Moon Festival was a good excuse for my friends and me to take our minds off our heavy schoolwork and enjoy some holidays. We decided to have a BBQ right downstairs of my house.
The day before our BBQ party, my friends and I went to the Wellcome supermarket to get all the grilling equipments and prepping material, such as portable BBQ-grill, coal, tinder, barbecue sauce, etc. Wellcome was a good place to shop since they have everything we needed; we soon collected all the goods on the list. Unfortunately, the weather wouldn’t cooperate and determine to rain on that day. The dreadful weather forced us to move our party into the balcony of my house. After getting the fire started, which really took us a long time, we began our delightful BBQ party. We prepared many kinds of foods. We were so exciting that we couldn’t wait until the fire to get warm enough to put the meat on the grill.
We distributed the work so that each of us will be in charge of a task. Some took care of the BBQ, and some took charge of preparing the skewers, and others made clam soup with garlic in it. We all crowded on the couch in the living room, enjoying the meal, singing Karaoke, and taking turns to play cards at the living room, and ate lots of medium rare beef and pork with toasts. After finishing our party, I was in charge of doing the dishes.I walked toward the kitchen and saw that it was full of smoke and the other side of the kitchen was hardly visible. I was totally freaked out because my parents are about to be home, if they saw what was happening in the house they will definitely be shocked and then get upset at me. I quickly rushed to get fans from different bedrooms.

We took out four fans to blow the smokes off, two fans in the balcony, one in the living room and the other one in the kitchen. We even opened the entrance door of my house which caused the whole floor to become smoky as well. With my friends helped, we quickly cleaned up the mess. Fortunately, the smoke eventually dispersed before my parents get home. Since then, when it comes to the Moon Festival, “the BBQ horror experience” will always come into my mind. From this event, I learned that we should never have the kitchen window closed while we are BBQing at the balcony. However, it was really an unforgettable experience which left me with many warm and funny memories.
BBQ is really a good activity for us to promote the friendship and having a pleasant time with our family. I think that is why we enjoy BBQ every year.

Texting Affects Our Email Habits Way More Than You Think

If the last couple of years are any guide, the fallout from high profile hacks such as the ones that targeted Sony, the Democratic National Committee, Colin Powell and, of course, Hillary Clinton, have taught us that if you have anything to say that can even remotely be perceived as controversial, you probably shouldn’t put it in an email.
But in it’s second annual , Adobe has found that email remains the number-one preferred mode of workplace communication, and people are using it more casually than ever, in part due to our reliance on mobile devices.
Related:

The majority of Adobe’s respondents said that their smartphones are the device they use the most to read email — 90 percent of 18 to 24 year olds, 88 percent of 25 to 34 year olds and 81 percent of those 35 and older. And texting may have more influence on our email habits than we realize. The study found that 37 percent of people said that they write shorter and more concise emails because of how they text, with 42 percent saying they use emojis to communicate in email as well.
Really, there’s no escaping it — 45 percent of respondents said they check their work email every couple of hours when they are off the clock. Forty-eight percent also reported that they checked their personal email at work with the same frequency. And when people are off the clock, they profess to reading emails while watching TV or a movie (69 percent), while laying in bed (57 percent), on vacation (53 percent) and even in the bathroom (45 percent).
Related:
While being succinct is vital to office communication, businesses should think about brevity when it comes to their email marketing efforts. “Brands can expect that longer, wordier emails will get deleted before they’re even read,” says Ben Tepfer, product marketing manager for Adobe Campaign. “Even [emails with] long subject lines are probably not going to be opened. Brands need to be really precise and on point with what they are providing. Really, less is more.”
More than half of respondents said that to make email more manageable, they acted on messages right away by responding to them, putting them in a folder or deleting them as soon as they appeared. Forty-five percent said that they decided to do a self-imposed email detox. Thirty-seven percent said they felt liberated in the attempt to unplug for a bit. However, 16 percent still expected a response to their emails within minutes, and 33 percent said that they expected a reply within the hour.

You have to wonder how much of this  always-on culture actually makes us more productive rather than making us just busy for busy’s sake.
“We don’t want to be left out. We don’t want to miss anything. I think that [looking at those statistics], work email has become a more emotional and personal experience,” Tepfer says. “When we have interactions with our bosses and our colleagues, we expect things back fast and we email them the way that we text our friends, and that’s a really interesting dynamic.”

NeoPets customers

NeoPets, Inc. was established in 1999 and is a free virtual online world which targets the youth. It creates an interactive world for its users where they own virtual pets, play games, trade imaginary items, interact with other NeoPets customers (Schnuer, 2005, p. 1). The customer base is about 178 million who own virtual pets and play online games through the site. The page is available in 11 languages with close to 867-plus billion page views. The primary revenue is derived from the advertisers and through the merchandise sales (those inspired by the characters on the website).
Immerse advertising is applied, where the message is communicated through the games and activities online. QUESTIONS 1. The past has witnessed many successful children’s products like Ninja turtles or Hula Hoops lose popularity and turn into a fad. However, NeoPets can prevent the same by maintaining its strategic marketing course of action. The marketing orientation should be focused on the target market and product diversification. Since the primary target audience is the youth, NeoPets should keep adopting innovative methods and adding creative contents.
The website should add further puzzles or games to engage the attention of the users. The characters seen on the site can be introduced as toys or be a part of a movie/video game in the future, to increase their popularity among its users (Wingfield, 2005). Neopets, Inc. is already making initiatives on these lines and is in talks to develop video and cell phone games (p. 1). The company should also try and customize its products according to customer needs. Adding benefits and features according to customer suggestions and requirements would help them maintain a customer oriented image.

The website should also maintain the technical stability and ensure that any problem is fixed immediately. The company should also abide by its social responsibility, meet regulatory requirements and serve the society. 2. The success achieved by NeoPets can be accredited greatly to the word of mouth advertising (Schnuer, 2005). Word of mouth has helped the website gain many new users to join and be a part of their online activities and communities. However, it is noticed that popularity for children products go through cycles of a sudden rise and a unexpected decline.
So assuming that the word of mouth technique would hold the same results in the future would not be justified, especially with tough competitors like Disney’s Club Penguin entering the market. A report by Fletcher (2008) states over 30 virtual sites are targeting the tweener (8-13 years) segment; so it is increasingly important to have better structured promotional activities. The strategic marketing strategy which combines the sales, customer and production marketing orientation should be adopted. Continuous product improvement should be insisted upon.
Viral marketing (where the existent customers are provided with additional benefits so that they facilitate and persuade new customers to join the website) should be adopted. This would help create a buzz about the website sustaining its online users and creating new customer base. NeoPets should also work on factors which have helped it become successful in the past. A report by Daniel (2007) states how the company established its base first in the English market before diverging into the 11 other language markets. Likewise the company is setting base in the youth before targeting the older age group segment.
However it is essential to retain the present customer base to become successful in the long run. 3. The acceptability for NeoPets would definitely differ from one country to the other. However, if the technology on offer is good then the cultural and linguistic differences would be nominal issues to deal with. The company is already available to close to 89. 9 percent of internet users across 11 other language countries and is further continuing its expansion. Also the feeling towards online games and pet ownership is universal.
Thereby the children across countries would be receptive to the website provided they get good service and understand the language the instructions are communicated in. NeoPets can try and customize its products according to the preference of the target market and try and filter any advertisement or message which may be considered offensive in a particular culture. For example if a pet or an item of food is considered religiously offensive in a particular country then NeoPets can filter that item and substitute it with an inoffensive one.
The limitation of the reach would perhaps be the internet accessibility among children in different countries. The company can perhaps take initiatives to contribute to the growth of bringing technology and internet accessibility to less developed countries. The diversification into video games and movies would also create a greater visibility to attract new customer base in different countries. 4. A report by Daniels et al. (2007) states that close to 79% of NeoPets users are aged 17 or less, and there has been serious criticism drawn for advertisements which are targeting the children.
The site should filter the offensive advertising and keep local sensitivity in mind. People also believe that the advertising lacks transparency. The company can make the advertising simple and straight forward by mentioning product sponsors in the beginning of a game or when a person logs on. The website also allegedly promotes gambling and consumption of junk food. Criticism has also been drawn cause of exclusion of religious substance. It was also found that hackers were able to access the website and entice a 12 year old girl to have sex (Daniels et al. 2007). Such occurrence can jeopardize the future of the company.
This may lead to serious legal and regulatory issues. And since the youth is every countries future, every parent would expect their children to keep away from any such negative influence. It is thereby important that each problem is dealt with and social responsibilities should be fulfilled to attain sustainable advantage and growth. NeoPets should also take the initiative to protect all its customers’ details and information, and comply with all data privacy requirements of all countries. Parents also believe that the website involves the kids in the games and ownership, which hampers their education.
To counter this criticism a parental control element could be added to the site; so that the parents can monitor the time each kid invests on the website. Various educational programs can also be introduced with lead characters teaching simple lesson between programs. Any religious or concern raised by a particular country should be addressed. With diversification activities on part of the company, there are various rules and regulations to be followed in different countries, all regulatory and legal issues should be addressed by NeoPets to avoid any problems in the future.
The company should fulfill its social corporate responsibilities to help abate any criticism. The criticism should also be taken in a positive manner and a quick response would help NeoPets create a positive image. 5. NeoPets has been in the youth market for a long time now and has made its grounds. There are many users who might have stepped into their adulthood while being a user of this website. NeoPets can now try and target the older age group. It may first target the older teens and those just stepping out of their teens as they are still transcending out of their teenage.
A related website can be started or a special segment can be introduced in the present one. The games can be of higher complexity or based on more sophisticated concepts and ideas. If the kids find the new platform an easy way to interact with people their age group who share their interests, they would be attracted towards joining. The company can also get newer advertisers in this manner, and cater various products which can be used by adults. The company should however ensure that it retains its young audience, for sustainable growth.

Assignment: The Practical Use of Strategic Planning

Assignment: The Practical Use of Strategic Planning
Consider the healthcare leaders and managers who have been profiled in the learning resources throughout this course. Would they all have the same vision for their organizations and plan for the same outcomes? Would the CEO of a hospital involve the same stakeholders in the same strategic planning process as the president of a foundation that funds services for families facing cancer, for example? The answer to these questions would likely be no.
In strategic planning, there is no “one-size-fits all.” Because every situation is different, healthcare leaders and managers must carefully weigh many different aspects of their organization—defining elements, goals, stakeholders, strategies for success, and roles.
To prepare for this Assignment:

Select two strategic plans from those listed below or find your own example from credible sources or your own experience. If you work in a healthcare setting, you might ask for a copy of the strategic plan from your organization.

Lyon County Human Services Department. (n.d.). Lyon County Human Services Department strategic plan FY 2015-2019. Retrieved from http://www.lyon-county.org/DocumentCenter/View/6294
Seattle Children’s Hospital. (n.d.). Moving boldly into our future. Retrieved from https://www.seattlechildrens.org/pdf/2017-strategic-plan.pdf
UC Davis Health System. (n.d.). UC Davis Health System strategic plan. Retrieved from http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/aboutus/pdf/strategic_plan_web.pdf

Consider how the processes and strategic plans for both organizations might be similar and different.

By Day 7
Write a 2- to 3-page paper to compare and evaluate the two Strategic pPlans you select. Address the following:

What are the key components of each Strategic Plan?
Who are the stakeholders who might have been most involved?
Compare the goals and strategies identified in each strategic plan.
What barriers are there to successful implementation of the strategic planning, and how could a healthcare manager overcome these barriers?
Put yourself in the role of a manager at one or both facilities. What are your responsibilities in ensuring one or both are successful?

Be sure to support your work with specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. Refer to the Essential Guide to APA Style for Walden Students to ensure that your in-text citations and reference list are correct.

Assignment 2: Analysis on Food Security

The members of the United Nations found great value in the analysis you provided on the effects of global warming that result from population growth. They are now asking you write an additional analysis to include further issues related to population growth. Here is the issue they have asked you to consider:

The member states of the United Nations seek to build food systems that can provide global food security which will feed everyone, everywhere, every day by improving food quality though the promotion of effective and nutritional agricultural practices. The crucial issue is not the lack of food in the world but the access to that food. In many developing countries, food shortages are due to governmental control over food distribution. These governments maintain control of the population and their power by limiting access to nutritious food to certain groups. In this practice, they thereby “weaponize” food.

Your second project as a consultant for the United Nations is to develop an analysis that addresses three issues related to global food insecurity caused by global population growth and poverty, and to explore these issues in a developing country of your choosing.
The UN has given you the following guidelines.

Content
The UN has asked that your paper contain three sections. Each section should be one page (or approximately 300 words) in length and answer specific questions, identified in the outline below. It also asks that you use examples from your developing country when answering the questions.
Introduction
Provide an introduction of half a page minimum that addresses points a-e below.

Explains the problem the UN has asked you to address in your own words;
Identifies the three sections your paper will cover;
Identifies the developing country you will consider;
Tells the UN the causes of food insecurity; and
Provides a one-sentence statement of your solutions at the end of your introduction paragraph.

Section I. Background

What is food insecurity?
What role does population growth play in food security?

Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security

What forms of technology can be used to reduce hunger and improve food security?
How would these technological solutions work?
What causes of food insecurity do these technologies address?

Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country

Considering the causes of food insecurity, what factors interrupt the flow of food from the source to the people in the developing country you selected?

            Conclusion

Provide a conclusion of half a page minimum that includes a summary of your findings that the United Nations can use to inform future policy decisions.

Success Tips

In answering each question, use examples from your developing country to illustrate your points.
The UN needs facts and objective analysis on which to base future policy decisions; avoid personal opinion and make sure your answers are based on information you find through research.

Formatting Requirements

Make sure your paper consists of four to six pages of content (or 1,200 words minimum, not including the cover or reference pages).
Create headings for each section of your paper as follows:

Section I. Background
Section II. Technologies That Can Reduce Hunger and Improve Food Security
Section III. Specific Factors in Chosen Developing Country

Use and cite at least five credible sources in your research. A list of potential resources is available below.
Make sure your paper contains both in-text citations and a source list, per SWS guidelines: Refer to the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS) document for reference.
Include a cover page with your name, the country you selected, the date you submitted the paper, and your instructor’s name.
